Mafia strikes again at Pascoli clan: 60 investigated in Messina

There are 60 suspects in the Nebrodi 2 operation, the major investigation by the District Antimafia Directorate of Messina on agricultural fraud and the mafia in pastures. The prosecutor has concluded the investigation by sending notice to 60 individuals and 8 agricultural companies. It emerged from the investigations that some suspects may have been part of a mafia association, the Tortorician family within the Bontempo Scavo and Batanesi groups, which were involved in various crimes such as trafficking illegal drugs, extortion, and fraud against the European Union and the Agea, as well as controlling economic and entrepreneurial activities directly or indirectly.

The investigation was led by Deputy Prosecutor Vito Di Giorgio and the deputy prosecutors of the Dda Fabrizio Monaco, Antonio Carchietti, and Francesco Massara. This is the same investigation that, in February, led to the arrest of 23 people (21 in prison and 2 under house arrest) and 14 injunctions suspending their business activities that would allow them to request EU or state funding. The investigations by the Carabinieri of the Ros and the Carabinieri for the Protection of Food, the Guardia di Finanza, and the Mobile Squad of Messina also led to precautionary seizures of 750,000 euros against eight agricultural companies. Nebrodi 2 is a follow-up to the operation Nebrodi launched in 2000. The appeal process is nearing its conclusion.
