Lipari, garbage ship catches fire but it’s a drill

The Maritime District Office of Lipari conducted a simulated fire exercise on a waste ship to test their intervention readiness in case of emergencies. The exercise involved simulating a fire on a vessel called “Green Lipari” which transports urban waste, in the waters near the port of Sottomonastero. The request for help was received from the ship’s commander via Vhf channel, prompting immediate response from the rescue team. Various agencies including the Coast Guard, Civil Protection, and Municipal Police, along with the coordination of the Maritime Authority of Lipari, played crucial roles in ensuring the success of the operations. The exercise aimed to assess the training level of personnel and ensure the protection of human life at sea, as well as the security and preservation of the marine and coastal environment.
