A day of mourning will be held tomorrow, December 11th, in Lampedusa, in the province of Agrigento. Mayor Filippo Mannino declared this after the tragic death of 29-year-old Salvatore De Battista, who died from a brain aneurysm. After collapsing, he was rushed to the island’s emergency room, where a ruptured vein in his brain was diagnosed. He was immediately airlifted to Palermo, where his condition rapidly worsened, and he fell into a coma from which he never woke up. Two days later, he was declared brain dead, and his organs were donated as he was an organ donor. The mayor called for a suspension of all activities during the funeral and burial ceremony. Tomorrow, the body will return to Lampedusa for the funeral. Social media platforms have been filled with messages for Salvatore, who was well-loved on the island.
