La Vardera leaves South for North mixed group: “Our paths diverge with De Luca”

“I will make my crossing in the desert. I will not join any majority party, I am going to the mixed group. I thank the movement and Cateno De Luca, but the time has come for our paths, at least for the moment, to separate.” Thus, Sicilian regional deputy Ismaele La Vardera, after deciding to leave Cateno De Luca’s movement, Sud chiama Nord.
“Last Saturday – he adds – I understood what the relationship with the leader of Sud chiama Nord is: no dialogue and without having discussed it before, he decided with all the remaining deputies to trace the future of the party. How could I not take into account Cateno’s statements: are we who attack the regional government today ready tomorrow to sit with the parties that support it today? And I would have said the same if the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement were by Schifani’s side. I have been accused of misunderstanding De Luca’s words, but listening to him again and also the statements of Francesco Gallo, a parliamentarian in Rome, I see no other interpretation than the one I gave and also the various newspapers. For this reason, with a pinch of emotion and affection, I decided to leave Sud chiama Nord and go to the mixed group. I thank the valuable collaborators of the group, Cateno, and all my fellow deputies.”
“I love Ismaele, a boy full of enthusiasm and very ambitious. However, I am very hurt by the choice made – says Laura Castelli, president of Sud chiama Nord, commenting on Ismaele La Vardera’s farewell to Cateno De Luca’s political movement. – I am also surprised by the timing: such a decision is not made in 24/48 hours, it takes much more time. A necessary premise. When I chose to share this path with Cateno De Luca and the Sud chiama Nord community, the only point on which I asked for reassurances from Cateno was to be part of a post-ideological movement. And Cateno confirmed it to me. Sud chiama Nord is post-ideological because it bases its political action on good administration, on real and concrete facts.”
“And those who had the opportunity to govern know the difference between just opposing, shouting, and protesting, compared to those who must administer, get their hands dirty, work hard, and really solve the problems of the Italians – she continues – this is the difference and it is said by someone who found himself governing with all the parties, but always achieving only what was right to do.”
“The decision you made is purely ideological and you have confirmed it with the reasons you have given – she concludes. Dear Ismaele, I can understand the young age, but it is necessary not to forget that in politics one must act only to solve problems and not for personal consent. If there is a hope of redemption for all Sicilians today, where everyone has failed, that hope is called Cateno De Luca. Experience teaches me that one should not only recognize oneself in a leader, but one must always trust him, even when you do not understand why that action. Especially if that person has strongly believed in and invested in you, in every respect.”
