Journalist Fausto Galati from Palermo has passed away at the age of 85

The journalist Fausto Galati passed away in Palermo after a long illness. He was 85 years old, had been a reporter for the Agenzia Italia and a correspondent for Il Giorno in Milan, and had covered some of the most important crime cases. Galati was very active in the journalism field, serving on the National Council of the Order and the Sicilian Journalists’ Association. He had been appointed honorary president of the Retired Journalists Group for his dedication to the profession. In his last speech at a union meeting three months ago, he emphasized the importance of independent journalists for democracy and called for a great mobilization. Galati’s funeral will be held tomorrow (March 26) at 10:30 am at the church of Don Orione. “With him, we lose a colleague who was committed to protecting journalists’ rights within the union,” said Giuseppe Rizzuto, regional secretary of the Sicilian Journalists’ Association.
