Irregularities reported in three butcher shops on Via Plebiscito in Catania: owners denounced

In the morning of yesterday, April 24th, the busy street Plebiscito, in Catania, was the focus of an extraordinary and integrated territorial control activity ordered by the police chief and coordinated by the San Cristoforo police station. The service, in addition to the State police (commissariat crews, mounted unit agents, crime prevention patrols), also saw the involvement of local police and personnel from the Labor Inspectorate, Veterinary Health Department, Public Health, and the Occupational Health and Safety Service.

Three butcher shops were inspected, where various administrative and hygiene-sanitary irregularities were found. In some cases, the displayed meats were deemed unsuitable for human consumption and therefore confiscated for subsequent disposal. The three owners were also reported for violations of workplace safety regulations, as in one of the shops the fire extinguishers were missing, while in the other two the inspection had not been carried out within the specified time frame. Some employees of the three butcher shops were also found to be not compliant with employment regulations, and their situations are being investigated by the Labor Inspectorate.

Furthermore, an important inter-force activity was carried out on the road, which, during various fixed and mobile checkpoints, allowed for the identification of 146 individuals, including 48 with criminal records, the inspection of 76 vehicles, the issuance of 14 fines for traffic violations (such as lack of insurance, failure to use a helmet, driving without a license, and others), and the seizure of 5 vehicles.
