One hundred olive trees on fire in San Giovanni Gemini, in the province of Agrigento. A fire broke out on a piece of land, in the Melaco district, owned by a twenty-nine-year-old worker. The discovery was made by some passersby who, alarmed by the flames, contacted the firefighters. Firefighters from the Mussomeli detachment intervened and extinguished the flames after a few hours. The police also arrived on the scene and immediately began investigating and questioning the landowner to see if he had seen or heard anything suspicious in the days leading up to the incident. The Agrigento prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation. All leads remain open, from accidental fire to intentional wrongdoing.
