Increased controls in Catania over the weekend

An intense weekend of inter-force checks in Catania led to numerous results in terms of security and prevention. During patrols as part of the operation coordinated by the police chief, arrests and seizures were made, particularly for drug-related offenses. Among the most relevant actions, a 27-year-old from Catania was stopped in the area of Castello Ursino, found in possession of two joints, and reported as a user at the local U.T.G.

The operations, carried out with the collaboration of the police, carabinieri, and financial guard, focused on nightlife areas and the historic center, such as Piazza Bellini, Via Sangiuliano, Piazza Nettuno, and the waterfront. A total of 278 people were identified, including 47 with previous convictions, and 119 vehicles were checked to prevent and combat crimes related to widespread criminality and ensure a safe nightlife.

Road checks, also carried out by the Carabinieri’s Radiomobile unit, resulted in 10 fines for traffic violations, totaling around 8,700 euros. The most common violations included driving without insurance, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and driving without a license. In some cases, confiscations and administrative seizures of vehicles were carried out.

Law enforcement activities also targeted the issue of unauthorized parking attendants. Three Catania residents were fined for operating without authorization: a 55-year-old in Piazza Turi Ferro, a 40-year-old in Via Dusmet, and a 28-year-old in Via Domenico Tempio. Additionally, three individuals were reported for violating the regulations of the D.AC.UR., which prohibit them from frequenting specific areas of the historic center.

Thanks to the widespread presence of law enforcement, there were no particular disturbances during the nightlife evenings, nor any violations related to driving under the influence of alcohol, with targeted checks that did not detect any drivers in a state of intoxication.
