In the heart of Catania, in via Gisira, 71, exactly a stone’s throw from the Duomo, a Mexican restaurant has come of age this year and has turned 18 in business.
We are talking about Carlito’s which has been transformed over the years but always retaining timeless and unmistakable aspects, such as the desire to party and share in the full Mexican spirit the exquisite dishes represented by the motto “ready to delight you”.
The pride of Carlito’s are certainly the recipes faithful to the culture of Mexico City, thanks to a study and constant research that make the dishes pure and not contaminated by European influences.
Mexican cuisine stands out for its rich and protein foods, for intense aromas and extremely persistent and tasty flavors, often spicy, thanks to the numerous spices used in the preparation of many dishes.
The history of Mexican cuisine is so varied and noteworthy that it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This year, however, Calito’s wanted to introduce a novelty that has already been very successful: “La Hora Feliz”, the Mexican happy hour.
Anticipating the opening time at 18.30, every day from the beginning of June it is possible to start partying starting from the aperitif which in itself has many unique elements.
The aperitif does not have a fixed price but you can create your own menu by choosing the mini plates designed for the occasion together with our chefs, with prices ranging from € 1 to € 4.50 per plate.
Among the main and best known dishes of Mexican cuisine we remember:
Nachos, crunchy totopos topped with melted cheese with peppers and jalapenos
Papa Y Queso, whole potato stuffed with cheese and bacon, with tampiqueria sauce and spicy sauce
Taco Maya, corn torilla stuffed with fried chicken in batter, sour cream, caramelized red onion
Tostada De La Abuela, crispy corn tortilla stuffed with tomato, pepper, onion, jolapeños and salted ricotta
Flautas, grilled tortillas filled with our tinga di carne and tinga di chicken
To flavor many dishes, in addition to Jalapenos, guacamole sauce is used, based on avocado, lime and salt, which is usually served as an appetizer to accompany totopos, or the “mole”, a particular type of sauce reminiscent of chocolate and which is used to season meat dishes.
Among the desserts to mention the inevitable chocolate churros, a delight that makes every palate happy!
To complete the aperitif, together with our bartender @fredlineverygood, we have created a new drink list capable of doing justice to the true spirit of “La Hora Feliz”.
The undisputed star of the list is definitely the Tequila Espolon Blanco, rigorously made in Mexico, with a light creamy sweetness that is subtly perceived in the background.
A sip is enough to find a mild spirit that burns very little, as well as with a hint of tropical fruit.
If tequila is not one of your favorite cocktails, the alternatives proposed are almost endless and can range from other rum-based cocktails up to the more classic and national ones.
If you want to spend an hour immersed in Mexico, releasing the desire to dive into the proposed mini plates and sipping delicious cocktails, then don’t wait any longer and book now through Whatsapp!
