Iddu: Film about Messina Denaro screened in Castelvetrano, city responds with 480 tickets sold

The most curious fact was the absence of posters hung in the city and in front of the Selinus theater in Castelvetrano, but apart from this detail, the film “Iddu” by Antonio Piazza and Fabio Grassadonia on Matteo Messina Denaro attracted many fellow citizens of the boss who today chose to watch it in their own city. The three screenings organized by the Municipality after Salvatore Vaccarino’s refusal to schedule the film at his Marconi cinema (the only one in the city) filled the Selinus theater, transformed for the occasion into a cinema.

Tickets sold for the three screenings were 480 and, starting from 4 pm, the theater audience was filled with citizens. Few young people in the audience, many teachers and ordinary people.

The first screening was also attended by municipal councilor Rosalia Ventimiglia: “I confess that I didn’t like it – she says – because, in part, it mythologizes the figure of Matteo Messina Denaro. One thing is certain, that the fugitive has led a horrible life. Show it to students? Yes, but only after having made them aware of the history of the epistolary relationship between Messina Denaro and Antonio Vaccarino”.

In the second screening, Vice Prefect of Trapani Luciano Zanta Platamone also arrived, and for the last screening, Regional Deputy Antonello Cracolici, president of the regional anti-mafia commission, is expected. “Today must be a moment of breaking with the past – said Mayor Giovanni Lentini present in the theater – let’s confront ourselves with this issue and move on. Of course, the figure of Matteo Messina Denaro should not be mythologized, but rather removed from the memory of our city”.

On October 10, the day the film was released in Italian theaters, Salvatore Vaccarino screened the docufilm “Falcone and Borsellino, the fire of memory” in his cinema (a few tens of meters from the Selinus theater), but there were only 70 people in the audience. The film “Iddu” will be shown from October 24 at the Olimpia cinema-theater in Campobello di Mazara, the town where the mafia boss spent the last period of his fugitive life.
