Hikers caught in snow and hypothermia on Mount Etna: rescued
Yesterday afternoon, on Saturday, November 25th, the CNSAS Sicilia technicians carried out a search and rescue operation for two hikers in difficulty in the area above the tourist facilities of Piano Provenzana, on the north side of Mount Etna, due to adverse weather conditions. The Alpine and Speleological Rescue teams, along with the Sagf military of the Guardia di Finanza, located the rugged area where the two young hikers were stranded. They were found conscious but in extreme difficulty due to hypothermia. The hikers were transported to safety and then to the 118 emergency medical service for evaluation and necessary treatment. The hikers were ill-equipped for the harsh winter conditions of the mountain, highlighting the importance of proper gear and preparation for mountain excursions.
