Giardini Naxos Mayor Stracuzzi: “I have thirty days to file an appeal”

The mayor of Giardini Naxos, Giorgio Stracuzzi, has been declared incompatible and thus forfeited due to his brother receiving a commission from the municipality, according to a ruling by the Messina court. He states that he has thirty days to file an appeal with the Messina Court of Appeal against the first instance ruling. He assures everyone that no automatic forfeiture will occur in the meantime, for himself or for the council supporting him, as they have an important program of administrative and financial reforms to carry out. He expresses regret for inadvertently bringing Giardini Naxos into the spotlight, without being able to intervene to remedy the situation. He places blame on the individual who initiated the legal action for not truly caring about the fate of Giardini, and emphasizes that he has no control over the professional appointments made by others to his family member. He believes the Court’s conclusion to be paradoxical and irrational.
