Giardinello ex-Finance Marshal Giuseppe Ciuro indicted for fraud with mayor

Explain in brief the following article:

The judge of Palermo Paolo Magro has indicted the mayor of Giardinello Antonio De Luca, the former financial officer Giuseppe Ciuro, and the traffic officer Corrado Lo Piccolo. They will have to answer for false public records. After the ruling of the review tribunal, the initial accusation of corruption against Ciuro and De Luca has been dropped.

Ciuro has been sentenced to 4 years and 8 months for aiding the mafia and fined 200,000 euros in legal fees in the trial regarding the so-called informants at the Dda, which also involved the former Sicilian governor Cuffaro. According to investigators, to avoid paying his debt to the State, with the help of the mayor and the traffic officer, Ciuro claimed to be indigent and requested residency in the municipality of Giardinello using a house belonging to the mayor’s father to prove he did not own any property and to establish a new family with zero income.

Lo Piccolo admitted to committing a false act but claimed he did so under pressure from the mayor.
