Former deputy mayor of Custonaci arrested for cursing against Falcone and Borsellino.

The former deputy mayor of Custonaci, Carlo Guarano, was arrested as part of an investigation into the Trapani mafia clans. In intercepted phone conversations, Guarano was heard cursing and expressing frustration about the commemorations for the Capaci massacre, in which judge Giovanni Falcone, his wife, magistrate Francesca Morvillo, and three police officers were killed. The conversation took place on May 22, 2022, the eve of the thirtieth anniversary of the attack. Guarano had previously made ironic remarks about the dedication of the Custonaci council chamber to judge Antonino Caponnetto, suggesting his interlocutor should ask the deceased magistrate to pay for their work on the plaque.
