Fire at a pilgrim’s home in Siracusa: 6 homeless people evacuated

An fire broke out in front of the entrance of the Casa del Pellegrino, the structure that used to accommodate visitors to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Tears in Syracuse. According to initial reports, the fire started from a pile of garbage last night. Nearby residents noticed the flames and contacted the fire department. Firefighters arrived at the scene, extinguished the fire, and rescued six homeless individuals who were spending the night inside the abandoned and vandalized structure. The building was not damaged. During the night, the fire department sealed off the entrance to the former Casa del Pellegrino to investigate the cause of the fire, but the seals were removed by someone the next morning.
