Final votes for Naro, the only Sicilian village in Borgo dei Borghi 2024

The village of Naro, a medieval and baroque gem located in the province of Agrigento, is the only Sicilian village competing for the highly anticipated election of the Village of Villages 2024, a contest linked to the homonymous RAI television show. The voting, which began on Sunday, February 25, will end on Sunday, March 17, at 11:59 pm.

The competition sees Naro as the protagonist, a town dominated by the Castle of the Chiaramonte family and with the lush Valle del Paradiso at its feet, is a real treasure trove that boasts cultural and landscape jewels that are perhaps little known but very precious. This will be the opportunity to support the small village of Naro by expressing a preference for the site where photos and a presentation video of Naro and the other 20 villages in the competition are published. One can vote once a day, with only one preference allowed. The voting will end on Sunday, March 17, at 11:59 pm.

The final ranking will be revealed on March 31, during a special episode of the television show “The Village of Villages”, airing in prime time on RaiTre. To vote, one must be an adult and registered on RaiPlay. Just walking through the streets of Naro is enough to realize its historical and scenic beauty; starting from the ancient city gate, the only one remaining out of seven, to reach the mosque transformed by Count Ruggero into the old Mother Church. Also of extraordinary testimony are the ancient Jewish quarter and the Medieval Castle Chiaramonte, at the top of the town. There are also churches rich in works of art such as the Mother Church (Maria SS. Annunziata), which houses the Madonna della Catena by Antonello and Giacomo Gagini and precious altarpieces; the Church of Santa Caterina; the Church of the Most Holy Savior; the Church of San Francesco.

The small village of Naro, with its charm of bygone times, has also inspired renowned writers like Leonardo Sciascia, in addition to being a temple of Sicilian culinary culture with its pasticciotti, sfinci, and fried milk, a mixture of flour, sugar, and milk molded into various shapes and fried in plenty of oil, sprinkled with sugar or honey.

“The participation in the competition for the election of the Village of Villages 2024 represents an important stage of valorization and, above all, knowledge of the entire village for the entire town. – declares the mayor of Naro, Maria Grazia Brandara – Around the candidacy of Naro as the Village of Villages 2024, there is an interesting involvement from the citizens and beyond, which is promising. So, I invite all Sicilians and tourists who have appreciated our village over the years to support our candidacy.”
