Fear in Sferravacallo: Attic catches fire, building evacuated

Fear in Sferracavallo for a fire that broke out in an apartment. The blaze occurred on the fourth floor of a building on Via Tabò, just a few meters from the church of Saints Cosma and Damiano. The flames reportedly started in an attic: the wooden roof caught fire and the blaze spread to the other rooms of the apartment within minutes.

When the alarm was raised in the seaside village, firefighters from the provincial command and law enforcement arrived on the scene. The residents of the apartment were able to evacuate in time, and it was necessary to evacuate the entire building to allow rescue teams to extinguish the flames safely.

The road was closed to traffic and pedestrians, and the firefighting operation lasted more than two hours. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, while residents will only be allowed to return to the building once its safety has been confirmed as the damage caused by the flames is significant.

In the past, another major fire broke out in an apartment in a building on the same street. In that case, a woman was burned on her face and arms and was taken to the hospital. Her young son, who was in the house with her at the time, also risked being taken to the emergency room. The fire was caused by a malfunctioning chimney.
