Favorite Sunday, the festival lasts for seven days

Explain in short the following article:

A week dedicated to aggregation and sharing experiences, set in one of the most important green spaces in Palermo. The city welcomes back Domenica Favorita, now in its sixth edition, with an innovative program: no longer just four consecutive Sundays but an entire week, from tomorrow, Monday, October 21st, to Sunday, October 27th. Citizens will have the chance to participate in activities of all kinds, involving both adults and children: from workshops for the little ones to expert discussions on sustainability, not forgetting spaces dedicated to sports, health, and culture. There are nine thematic itineraries this year: family, school, health, music, skills, sports, talk, tours, and wine.

In recent days, at the presentation conference of the event held at the Pitré Museum in Palermo, among others, Vice Mayor Giampiero Cannella, city councilor for social services Rosi Pennino, the founders of the event committee Marco Lampasona and Fabio Corsini, and the health director of Asp Palermo Antonino De Vita were present.

Marco Lampasona explains the organizational news for this edition: “The main novelty will be the claim of ‘seven times Sunday’. Instead of holding the event only on Sundays, as in previous years, this time we will operate for an entire week with nine thematic programs, covering health, sports, culture, and of course a space reserved for children and families.” The Asp Palermo will also be present at the event, as De Vita explained, “confirming its commitment on the territory, offering services aimed at prevention in all its aspects: we will provide free screenings for cancer prevention, but also support activities for the control of sexually transmitted diseases.”

The praise from Vice Mayor Cannella for Domenica Favorita is tied to the fact that “it features one of the largest urban parks in Palermo and involves citizens in a beloved place: we foresee a multidisciplinary fruition with sports, cultural and recreational activities involving families. The event is possible thanks to the synergy between institutions, organizations, and associations, making the Favorita a place rich in activities.” Pennino explained how “my relationship with Domenica Favorita goes far beyond my role as councilor: this event on a social level is extraordinary, as it harmonizes citizens with the green spaces of Palermo in such an important area as the Favorita. These are moments that serve young people to discover a slice of the city that they would not otherwise know.”

Now in its sixth edition, the initiative returns with a program full of activities on multiple levels (details on the next page) while the seven-day format aims on one hand to facilitate organization, especially in the set-up and dismantling operations of materials and equipment. On the other hand, it allows for an expanded involvement of schools in playful-recreational scenarios that replace lessons on weekdays, without limiting classes to just Sundays.

Children remain among the main target audience of Domenica Favorita, so that the park is a space dedicated not only to workshops and sports but also to activities with parents. There are also numerous events for adults, from expert discussions on sustainability to concerts, to moments of aggregation to raise awareness of green care. The event remains an important moment to sensitize everyone, especially the new generations, to the care and recovery of the Favorita, often vandalized during holidays and weekends, with illegal bonfires, barbecues, and mountains of garbage.
