Families flood the streets of central Palermo in a red wave

Explain to me briefly the following article:

A red tide of over 20,000 participants invaded the streets of downtown Palermo. The eighth edition of StraPapà, of which the Giornale di Sicilia, Tgs, and Rgs were media partners, broke all records and established itself as one of the most anticipated events in the city. Many last-minute families joined the thousands of registered participants who took over the city center for an entire morning. The event monopolized the entire weekend with workshops and treasure hunts, thanks to the partnership with Acsi (Italian Sports Centers Association) and the MiniMupa girls, an educational-interactional museum on Vicolo San Carlo. The event culminated with a parade starting from Piazza Castelnuovo, followed by an exhibition of motorcycles from Vecchi Pistoni. Families walked hand in hand along the route, starting from Piazza Castelnuovo, crossing various streets, and returning to the starting point, where participants received medals and prizes.

“We had about 5,000 registered participants and over twenty thousand people who colored the city,” enthusiastically announced Domenico Totaro, Acsi delegate. “We are very pleased and encouraged for the next edition. The numbers surpassed last year when we reached 18,000 total participants. We thank the schools above all: they are our reference point, the young generations, and this is a celebration dedicated to families.”

For some, it was their first time participating, which is seen as a positive sign for citizens and children. “We are here for the first time and it is very important for our children,” said Marco Ferrante. “We try to educate them to socialize and it is another reason to improve our increasingly sedentary lifestyle,” added Giuseppe Panno.

For others, it was their third edition, and this year was special as they celebrated a family member’s 50th birthday. “We are participating with my cousin who turns 50,” emphasized Roberto Di Cara. “We are already at the third edition and will be here again next year. And in the afternoon, everyone will be at the stadium supporting the Rosanero colors.”

The article ends with a reference to interviews with Domenico Totaro, Marco Ferrante, Giuseppe Panno, and Roberto Di Cara in the video.
