Erasmus student in Palermo involved in theft and blackmail, leading to arrest of Tunisian receiver
The police have reported R.Y., a 26-year-old Tunisian citizen, for receiving stolen goods after an attempted “cavallo di ritorno” against a Spanish Erasmus student in Palermo. The young woman had been the victim of a theft in the city center, near Piazza Pretoria, where her cell phone was stolen. Shortly after, another individual approached her offering to return the phone in exchange for a sum of money, a practice known as “cavallo di ritorno.” Pretending to accept the offer, the student arranged a meeting with the man but alerted the police, contacting the emergency line while pretending to speak with a relative.
The officers involved in nightlife security services under the High Impact protocol quickly dispatched a patrol to the meeting place. As soon as the man noticed the arrival of the officers, he attempted to flee but was immediately apprehended.
The police gathered the girl’s testimony, confirming that the cell phone was indeed hers, and returned it to her. The 26-year-old was reported for receiving stolen goods, while investigations continue to identify the actual perpetrator of the theft. The prompt reaction of the student and the timely intervention of the police prevented the crime from being carried out.
