Enna awards waste collection service: now it’s time to amend the Charter to restore control to the City Council

Approved by the municipal council of Enna, the urban cleanliness service has been entrusted to the publicly owned company EcoEnnaServizi for a period of 15 years at a cost of 100 million euros. Before giving the green light to the service, the municipal councilors discussed a point that had been hanging over the city for weeks: the approval of the “regulation for similar control on the in-house companies of the Municipality of Enna.”

A change in the statute, made by Mayor Maurizio Dipietro last year without the councilors’ knowledge, effectively deprived the municipal council of its control functions over the same publicly owned company. In recent weeks, the president of the first committee, Giuseppe Trovato, councilor of Siamo Enna, has worked on a document, negotiating with the mayor himself, according to which the municipal council will once again take on the role of controller of the waste management company. On other changes made to the statute, also on the proposal of Councilor Trovato, it will be up to the Anac to clarify whether the procedure was legitimate or not.

The old contract for the urban cleanliness service will expire in July. Concurrently, during the session, the Council approved the statement of accounts for 2023 and an amendment that allows for the commitment of funds for the enhancement of public transport between upper and lower Enna, particularly for university students.
