Easter Monday in Palermo: picnic at Favorita, no barbecues.

In the Favorita park, the ordinance is being respected: the checks by the municipal police, carabinieri, forestry corps, rangers, financial guard and police seem to have discouraged the stubborn barbecuers. However, the law enforcement agencies have still found piles of old branches and unusual waste disposal, including mountains of old books and lumber.

Among the trees, meanwhile, families and groups of young people, all strictly organized in picnics, are present as tradition and with the will to discover a park that has been almost inaccessible for too long: “We are all classmates – explains Federico Minì – we decided to spend Easter Monday here, so we can discover an area of our city that we don’t know. We bought bread, cold cuts and cheeses: we will have a classic picnic to respect the ordinance.”

A different scenario is found in Romagnolo. Families are already using the grill around 11 am and the first vans are appearing on the beach: “We hope that those who come here will leave everything clean – emphasize Giuseppe Federico and Giovanni Colletti, president of the first district and councilor – we reiterate that this area of the city is considered second rate, it is never taken into consideration. We are afraid that it may get out of hand and for this reason, we ask for the checks to be extended to the south coast as well.”
