Drug lab discovered in abandoned structure in Palermo, with a gun also found

In Palermo, the police discovered an abandoned structure in a street in the Noce neighborhood that was hiding a drug refining laboratory. The officers also seized over a kilo and a half of drugs, some of which were already packaged in doses and ready for distribution. The operation was carried out in recent days as part of the territory control activities conducted by the police of the Zisa-Borgo Nuovo precinct.

It was around 3 in the morning when the officers of a patrol, while patrolling Via Lancia di Brolo, noticed that the access door to a warehouse, known to be in a state of abandonment, was ajar. The police became suspicious and decided to enter to check the status of the premises and conduct a search. The officers found not only that the place was used as a drug packaging laboratory, but especially that it was still “warm,” meaning that someone had been present shortly before the police’s arrival.

Inside what the police consider to be a real “drug workshop,” they found all the tools necessary for the illegal activity, such as pots, burners, ladles, precision scales, various plastic bags, and around 1,600 grams of hashish, marijuana, and crack, only partially packaged. On the drug-laden table, there was also an unmarked pistol, caliber 7.65, and a loaded magazine with 6 cartridges.

The material was seized, and investigations, including ballistic ones, are ongoing on the weapon to determine if it was stolen and if it has been fired before. Investigations are underway to establish who was guarding the laboratory until shortly before the police intervention.
