Discovery of six illegal stables in San Cristoforo neighborhood in Catania, fines totaling 17,000 euros

The police carried out checks in the San Cristoforo neighborhood to combat the phenomenon of illegal horse slaughter and clandestine horse races, in order to protect legality and safeguard the conditions of the animals, as ordered by the police chief of Catania.

The task force was coordinated by the officers of the San Cristoforo police station and involved the Crime Prevention Department, the veterinary section of the local public health agency, and the environmental police. The officers checked seven stables, of which only one was found to be in compliance with current regulations.

In the six illegal stables, the officers conducted thorough checks that led to the discovery of numerous administrative violations resulting in fines totaling 17,000 euros, imposed on the owners, who were also reported to the judicial authorities for keeping the animals in unsuitable conditions.

Furthermore, administrative detention was carried out for six horses, and several doping drugs were seized, found in the irregular stables and likely used to stimulate the animals during clandestine races. The police operation is part of the ongoing monitoring of the phenomenon that, since the beginning of the year, has led to the discovery of several illegal stables, with the seizure of numerous horses.

The control activities carried out by the San Cristoforo police station were extended to investigate violations of the traffic code through neighborhood patrols. Specifically, five infractions related to the lack of documentation, absence of periodic inspection, and lack of civil liability insurance were recorded, leading to administrative seizures. In total, 112 people were identified, 30 with previous charges, and 54 vehicles were checked.
