Daughter of Angelo Onorato claims father was murdered in Palermo: “He did not commit suicide”

The death of the Palermo entrepreneur Angelo Onorato, 54 years old, husband of the MEP and vice secretary of the Christian Democracy Francesca Donato, remains a mystery. The man, an architect and owner of two shops in the Sicilian capital, was found dead yesterday afternoon inside his Range Rover on the side road leading to the highway from Palermo to Mazara del Vallo. At the moment, no leads are excluded and investigators are delving into the man’s personal and professional life. Many questions remain unanswered. The wife and daughter were taken to the Palermo Mobile Squad last night to be questioned as witnesses. An investigating lawyer friend has also been interviewed, and it seems that the entrepreneur had given him a letter mentioning financial problems. Angelo Onorato had reportedly confided in him about economic problems due to debts and credits he could not collect. This is one of the leads being investigated by the authorities. The investigators have also interviewed the MEP Francesca Donato, the victim’s wife, and their daughter Carolina: the two women discovered the man’s body by reaching the car using the GPS signal from their phones. However, for the wife and daughter, the certainty is that he did not commit suicide.

On social media, the 20-year-old daughter writes: “Inaccurate things have been said, so I feel the need to specify how things stand: My father did not commit suicide, he was murdered. He was not a person who would have left his family like that, and especially not in the way my mother and I found him. I tell you that it was not a suicide but a murder.”

The street where the car was found has warehouses and companies, and investigators are looking for surveillance camera footage. The entrepreneur was found seated in the driver’s seat with the seatbelt fastened. There was a plastic tie around his neck; blood stains were on his shirt. There were no signs of struggle inside the car, and the windows were intact. According to the initial inspection of the body carried out by the forensic doctor, the entrepreneur died of suffocation. However, the suicide hypothesis remains open for the investigators. The night before the body was found, Onorato had attended a party, and those who met him remember him being calm. Another path being followed is the intertwining of his political and personal life.
