The 7-year-old boy who was stabbed by his father on the 23rd of May in Cianciana, in the province of Agrigento, is recovering. The father, a 34-year-old mechanic named Daniele Alba, also attempted to kill his partner and their two children. The boy has been transferred from the Civico hospital to the Children’s hospital in Palermo.

The 3-year-old sister is still sedated and in intensive care. The prognosis is reserved for both of them. After the triple attempted murder, the 34-year-old mechanic barricaded himself in the house and was convinced to come out only after a long mediation by the negotiator of the Carabinieri. Today, the man, who is in prison in Sciacca, will be interrogated by the judge.

“The conditions of the 7-year-old boy are improving. He has been extubated, woke up, and is feeding himself. He is telling what happened, but at the moment the doctors and healthcare professionals are trying to distract him and make him think of something else. For the surgeries he underwent, the prognosis remains reserved,” explained Gaetano Buccheri, the healthcare director of the Civico hospital. The conditions of the 3-year-old sister are more delicate. She also wakes up from time to time, doesn’t seem to have neurological problems, but we continue to keep her sedated to perform some tests while waiting for her vital signs to fully stabilize. The girl is young and all the tests need to be done under sedation. She is monitored minute by minute. Prudence is currently high for both of them.”

The two children are hospitalized at the Di Cristina hospital in Palermo and are still in intensive care. “The boy tries to describe what he saw and experienced, but he should not exert himself, he has a very complex post-operative period to face. 48 hours after the incident, the boy’s condition is good. The girl’s parameters are also improving. It is clear that guarantees cannot be given for such young children because they could decompensate.”

The madness afternoon dates back to the 23rd of May. After the stabbing, the woman managed to escape down the stairs with her son in her arms and both were immediately rescued and taken to the hospital. The little girl was later brought out by the father. He had handed her over to the rescuers who had climbed up with a crane, then barricaded himself in the house.
