Catania: Offer to fix elderly woman’s car leads to 6,000 euro scam
The police officers of the Borgo Ognina station have investigated a 32-year-old man accused of repeatedly defrauding a 78-year-old woman. The man took advantage of the woman’s age and quickly stole 6,000 euros from her. The investigation was started by the victim’s complaint to the police, in which she recounted an incident where her car was damaged and she was approached by the man offering to repair it at a good price. However, he continued to ask for more money under false pretenses, eventually draining all the money from her bank account. When the victim’s son discovered the scam, he contacted the man and arranged a meeting where the police were able to apprehend and charge him with aggravated fraud.
