Catania: Kalashnikov, ammunition, and drugs found in garage
Kalashnikov, ammunition, and drugs seized by the State police in the densely populated neighborhood of San Giovanni Galermo, in Catania. The control activity, coordinated by the agents of the Nesima police station, saw the involvement of the Crime Prevention Department, the canine units of the General Prevention and Public Relief Office. They discovered a garage full of weapons and ammunition hidden among furniture, furnishings, and various items stacked inside the box. Also present were a Kalashnikov, a 9×21 caliber pistol with an erased serial number, four 7.62 caliber magazines with 45 bullets, two empty 7.62 caliber magazines, nine magazines of various calibers, also devoid of bullets, and 337 loose cartridges of various calibers. The drug detection dog Ares signaled the discovery of 990 grams of marijuana, materials for weighing and packaging the drug, as well as balaclavas and radio transceiver devices. A 30-year-old previous offender from Catania, residing in an apartment adjacent to the garage, was arrested. In his home, in a hidden compartment in the kitchen furniture, there were 620 euros in small denomination banknotes and 22 cartridges of the same caliber as those found in the garage. The operation allowed the control of a total of 112 people, of which 35 had previous police records, and 47 vehicles, resulting in numerous fines for violations of the Highway Code, from driving without a helmet to the absence of civil liability insurance coverage and the lack of periodic inspection, leading to the administrative detention of a vehicle.
