Catania airport closed, desperate tourists sleep in hotels for 100 euros

Due to the eruption of Mount Etna, the Fontanarossa airport in Catania, Sicily, has been closed until tomorrow at 6 am. Flights have been cancelled or redirected to Comiso and Trapani airports. Passengers are stranded and unsure of where to stay overnight. This closure comes after a partial closure in July due to fires. Travelers are frustrated as they had previous difficulties with their journey and now face more uncertainties. Many are camping out at the airport, while others have returned to the city or rented a car.
