Artichoke takes center stage in Cerda for the Sagra and Cynara festival

This morning (April 19) the Cynara Festival and the 42nd edition of the Artichoke Festival of Cerda were presented in Palermo, which this year will take place from April 20 to 28 with a dense program of initiatives. The mayor of Cerda and regional parliamentarian Salvatore Geraci opened the proceedings emphasizing “the deep bond of the community to this event, born in 1982, which has always involved all Cerda families. A heritage of feelings and enthusiasm experienced with authentic popular participation that has transformed our city into a small but important capital of the Artichoke and gastronomy, attracting thousands of people from all over Sicily and other regions every year.”

Many innovations have been introduced that, day after day, are condensed into Taste experiences, recipes and cooking shows to enhance the artichoke and the identity cultivar: the thorny Cerda. President Mario di Lorenzo spoke on behalf of the seven wineries of the Doc Monreale, lined up for the Cynara Festival, ready to pair their wines with dishes and culinary proposals that can break the common belief of the difficult relationship between wine and artichoke. “We experienced this unusual combination at the table with Vinitaly and the challenge seems to have been won. We participate eagerly because the territories of excellence and identity of Sicilian agriculture must converge and team up, work together, propose together.”

It was the regional Agriculture department manager Vincenzo Pernice who highlighted the value of this synergy “in the field” between the Cerda Artichoke and the labels of this renowned Doc from the Palermo area. “We support this approach between peculiar production systems that give rise to new models of interaction, economic, cultural, social.”

Giusi Battaglia, journalist and host of Giusina in Cucina on Food Network, who has been part of the cast of È sempre Mezzogiorno on Raiuno since January, will baptize the Cynara Festival and the Artichoke Festival. On April 25 – the traditional peak day – she and the artistic director of Tgs Salvo La Rosa will promote the Artichoke with many guests.
