Arrests in Liguria: Links to the mafia. Who are the ruthless brothers from Riesi and the Cosa Nostra lady?

The Cammarata clan of Riesi, affiliated with Cosa Nostra, implicated in the Genoa investigation that involved the institutional leadership of Liguria, is one of the most ruthless, dangerous, and powerful in Sicily.

At the head of the crime family is Pino Cammarata, considered the boss of the mafia. Alongside him are his brothers Vincenzo and Francesco, all serving life sentences and held under strict prison conditions. The so-called “terrible brothers” have managed illegal activities in the region for years and have been involved in brutal crimes. Currently under house arrest, accused of mafia association, is also the sister of the three bosses, 70-year-old Maria Catena, considered the “Lady of Cosa Nostra”. Just a few months ago, she was sentenced to 11 years in prison for mafia and extortion.

After the arrest of the three brothers, according to investigators, she took over the family’s business dealings. The Cammarata clan was a key player in the mafia war that erupted in Nisseno in the nineties.

A war between Cosa Nostra on one side and the Stiddari on the other. For years, the Cammarata clan dominated the territory, but after the violent feud of those years, they also suffered harsh blows from the State. To escape capture, fear of being killed, or after years of imprisonment, many affiliates and men of honor left Riesi to continue their illegal activities in northern Italy.
