The Carabinieri for the protection of cultural heritage in Palermo have returned two panels to the Church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli in Torre del Greco. The lieutenant colonel Gianluigi Marmora, commander of the unit, returned the two valuable religious, historical, and cultural marbles to Father Giosuè Lombardo, the parish priest of the pontifical basilica. The discovery of the precious artifacts was made during an investigation coordinated by the Syracuse prosecutor’s office, where cultural and archaeological items worth around 3 million euros were seized. Using the Ministry of Culture’s stolen cultural assets database, it was confirmed that the stolen items were taken from the bell tower church in 2013.
