Altavilla massacre: accused mason denies violence towards family

The article accuses the couple who had previously defended the man and claims to have only prayed for Giovanni Barreca, the mason from Altavilla Milicia who, along with two religious fanatics, killed his wife and two children during an exorcism. The man, in prison, told his lawyer Giancarlo Barracato that he never used violence against his family and that the situation escalated with the intervention of Massimo Carandente and Sabrina Fina, who intervened to free the victims from the demon. The mason clears his 15-year-old daughter, who is being investigated for the triple homicide, even though he acknowledges her particular “ability to sense the presence of the demon.” The conversation between the mason and the lawyer took place in the presence of criminologist Roberta Bruzzone, the defense consultant in evaluating the man’s capacity to understand and want. “The mental illness is evident,” says Barracato, who describes his client as being in total confusion. Meanwhile, Massimo Carandente’s lawyer, Marco Rocca, has withdrawn from the defense.
