After beating cancer, she bikes through Italy to inspire others: stop in Palermo

A 60-year-old man, Gianfranco Gallo, from Potenza, rode his bicycle for two thousand kilometers to deliver a message of hope to oncology patients. He visited the Policlinico in Catania and the Ibuscus shelter before arriving at the Civico Hospital in Palermo, where he was welcomed by volunteers from Aslti, the Sicilian association against leukemia and childhood cancers. Gallo, a former cancer patient himself, shared his story of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery from Hodgkin’s lymphoma thirty years ago, to inspire others to have courage and determination in the face of illness. He expressed his belief that cancer can be beaten and his journey also aimed to evaluate progress in cancer treatment and patient care. Before reaching Sicily, Gallo had traveled through Calabria and planned to continue to Sardinia and Corsica. Aslti’s president and director welcomed Gallo’s testimony and planned to introduce him to families of current pediatric oncology patients, reinforcing the message of hope for recovery. They also intended to show him their welcoming facilities, which embody the compassionate care that their association promotes.
