After 31 years, a case of “lupara bianca” in Enna solved.

After 31 years, a cold case from 1992 involving a disappearance, known as a “lupara bianca,” has been solved thanks to the discovery of a note in the home of a member of the Enna organized crime, during an anti-mafia investigation. The note led to the alleged mastermind behind the murder of Franco Zanerolli, who had been declared presumed dead. Zanerolli disappeared from his workplace in Piazza Armerina, leaving his car with the keys in a nearby rural area. There were no signs of a struggle, leading investigators to believe he had left with someone he knew. Recently, the investigation was reopened after the note was found. Pietro Balsamo, already convicted of mafia-related crimes, has been arrested and accused of being the mastermind behind the murder. Despite initial rejection, a court upheld the decision to keep him in custody.
