A lemon grove is on fire in Riposto: the blaze threatens a residential area.

#Catania
A vast fire, with a front about five hundred meters long, is devastating a mostly uncultivated lemon grove in the rural area of the Quartirello district, in the province of Catania. A dense plume of smoke, visible from a great distance, is emerging from the towering flames. The fire is destroying a farmhouse and spreading across at least 4 different locations near a residential neighborhood. Among the first to respond in Riposto, on Gaelano Street, after an initial inspection by the carabinieri, was the municipal councilor, Carmelo D’Urso. The firefighters, who have been heavily engaged throughout the foothill towns of Mount Etna in recent days (yesterday along the Macchia stream in Giarre), are trying to find a way in, as the site is quite rugged. It is likely that the intervention of helicopters or Canadairs will be requested.

At the moment, there are no hypotheses regarding the cause of the fire. The temperature, exceeding 40 degrees, is putting a strain on the population and undoubtedly fueling the flames. The authorities urge citizens to exercise extreme caution, emphasizing the need for them to be extremely responsible to prevent negligence from fueling fires and thereby endangering people’s safety and causing serious damage. In this regard, it is important to refer to the manual and brochure created by the firefighters in collaboration with the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI), which provide information on interface fires and measures to assess the fire risk to one’s home or business, as well as advice for prevention and protection.
