Regione buys Casa Savona in Palermo for 600,000 euros

The Sicilian Region has purchased Casa Savona, an Art Déco masterpiece located in via Genova, Palermo, for just over 600 thousand euros, including furniture and furnishings. Casa Savona, declared of historical-artistic and monumental interest, is located in an elegant 1920s Umbertine building in the heart of the Sicilian capital. It was about to be sold to an English buyer when the Sicilian Region, recognizing its value and importance for the historical-artistic heritage of the Island, exercised its rights and purchased it. A group of associations had appealed to the Region and its department to exercise the right of first refusal. The government committed to finding funds for the purchase in record time. The property, entirely renovated between 1936 and 1938, reflects the peak phase of Art Déco, with a refined use of precious materials, unusual marbles, and refined metal details. The regional government aims to enhance the property’s cultural appeal, especially as part of a thematic route of Sicilian Déco, of which Casa Savona will be a fundamental stop.
