Palermo tightens grip on municipal companies with empty pockets

The professional assignments, purchase of tablets and iPhones, and skyrocketing legal expenses have caught the attention of cost control offices. They are urging participating companies to cut costs and stick to the budget. The message is clear: no more impromptu expenses and strict adherence to the planned spending. They want to avoid going over the threshold of 40 thousand euros, which allows for bypassing tender procedures. The deputy mayor Carolina Varchi has signed a directive emphasizing the importance of the restructuring plan, warning that it could be jeopardized if company accounts continue to suffer. To prevent this, she has imposed stringent controls on spending centers.
