17-year-old dies in motorcycle collision with a streetlight in Giarre

A 17-year-old teenager from Giarre, Mattia Musumeci, died in a fatal accident when he crashed a scooter, which he did not own, into a lamppost. The incident occurred on the night of August 30th on the Messina course in Giarre. According to initial reports, Mattia lost control of the scooter, a Honda Sh, before the intersection between Messina course and Alfieri Street. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Despite immediate intervention by nearby residents and emergency responders, there was nothing that could be done for Mattia, who would have turned 18 later in the year. Carabinieri and firefighters arrived on the scene to secure the damaged lamppost. The victim’s body was transferred to a mortuary in the Giarre hospital.
