Bad weather in the Aeolian Islands: yachts and sailboats seek shelter in calm bays.
For the past two days, the Aeolian Islands have been experiencing bad weather. Strong winds from the west started last night and are expected to continue tomorrow. The weather conditions are expected to improve starting from Wednesday. Due to rough seas, ferry services from and to Palermo and Messina by Liberty Lines have been suspended. Travel to Vulcano, Lipari, and back is still possible from Milazzo, with limited availability for Filicudi, Alicudi, and Ginostra. Some trips to Stromboli and Panarea are still operating. Siremar’s ferry services from Milazzo to the smaller islands are also facing difficulty due to inadequate ports. Yachts and sailboats have sought shelter in the protected bay of Marina Lunga in Lipari, as well as in other calm stretches of sea in the archipelago. Among the yachts spotted is Queen Miri, a 92-meter-long vessel owned by the family of the late American magnate Sheldon Adelson. In Vulcano, the yacht “Andiamo,” owned by a Mexican owner, is docked. It has a steel and aluminum hull, measures 60 meters, and can reach a speed of 16 knots. In Panarea, the anchored yachts include the 60-meter-long “Samurai,” registered in the Cayman Islands and built by Alia Yacht, as well as a 40-meter-long sailboat named “Soutwind Of,” designed by Tony Castro and completed by Jongert in the Netherlands. The sailboat can accommodate up to 8 tourists and has a crew of 5 members. It sails under the flag of Malta.
