The coast guard of Pantelleria continues to carry out checks aimed at protecting the environment. During their latest service activity, they discovered the presence of all kinds of abandoned waste, including special and hazardous waste, on public land and in the area of Punta Fram.

The military identified the owner of the land, who is also the holder of the public concession, as responsible for illegally abandoning hazardous waste on the ground. Furthermore, they failed to monitor the areas, allowing unknown individuals to continuously and regularly dump waste, especially bulky waste, at the site. The offender has been fined 6,000 euros. The Technical Area – Waste – Environment Department of the Municipality of Pantelleria has been informed about this abandonment and will issue a specific cleanup order for the restoration of the site and the punishment of the offender, in respect of the environment and public health.

Furthermore, within the same activities aimed at combating environmental offenses, personnel from the island’s coast guard, following a complaint from citizens tired of acts of incivility, identified another person responsible for waste dumping. The military managed to identify the owner of a car captured on video while dumping bulky waste within the port area of Scauri.

In this case as well, an administrative fine of 3,000 euros was immediately imposed. The Coast Guard urges all citizens who need to dispose of bulky waste to do so according to the procedures provided by the Municipality of Pantelleria’s Urban Hygiene and Waste Collection and Disposal Regulations, emphasizing that port captain personnel will continue their environmental monitoring activities to discourage the abandonment of hazardous and non-hazardous waste throughout the municipal territory.
