Palermo’s recycling collection is too slow: 39 million euros at risk.
The Palermo green 2030 project has a long-term ambition, but a short-term pace. The story of Cep – where proximity separate collection (which involves eco-points with bells for paper, glass, plastic, and organic waste) after 7 years has been a failure and they are (they say temporarily) returning to the beloved old dumpsters – is emblematic in this respect. Just as the slow pace at which the door-to-door service is being extended to the entire city risks this time causing very serious issues. Specifically, the funding of almost 39 million euros under Axis 6 of the Pon Metro project is at risk, with a reporting deadline approaching, mainly concerning the purchase of vehicles to support recycling.
