Cassazione upholds sentences in case of girl who died in scooter accident due to pothole
The Court of Cassation rejected the appeal: the verdicts of the first two degrees of judgment for the former head of the technical office of the Municipality of Agrigento Giuseppe Principato and the head of the Viability Service Gaspare Triassi, who were sentenced to one year of imprisonment for manslaughter, were confirmed.
The case is that of Chiara La Mendola who died on December 30, 2013 on Viale Cavaleri Magazzeni, following a road accident. According to the trial, the girl allegedly lost control of her Scarabeo scooter due to a pothole, ending up under the wheels of a car coming from the opposite direction. According to the judges, the fault lies with the officials of the Municipality of Agrigento, who, despite being informed of the presence of the road defect, did not do anything to fix it or at least make it safe.
