Palermo gang rape at Foro Italico: Minor’s conviction upheld on appeal
The Palermo Court of Appeals confirmed the eight-year and eight-month sentence imposed in the first instance on the young man, who was a minor at the time of the crime, accused of taking part in a group rape committed in July 2023 by seven boys against a nineteen-year-old girl from Palermo. The sexual violence occurred in an abandoned construction site in the Italics fora. The defendant, who was not yet 18 years old at the time, had been convicted in the first instance by the juvenile judge. The prosecution at the appeal was represented in court by deputy attorneys general Maria Grazia Puliatti and Claudia Bevilacqua.
Currently, the six defendants who were adults at the time are undergoing trial for the violence. In the previous hearings, the Public Prosecutor’s Office concluded the closing arguments with the requests for penalties. The verdict is expected on November 8th.
