Palermo airport back in operation, technicians restored power.

The Falcone Borsellino airport in Palermo is back in operation. Technicians have restored electricity and boarding procedures are about to begin for the first two departing flights to Pisa and Verona.

Following heavy rains, the Falcone Borsellino airport in Palermo had stopped operations due to flooding in some areas of the terminal, particularly in the baggage area. There were also power outages that disrupted normal arrival and departure activities.

Immediately, the Emergency Terminal Plan (Pet) was implemented and passengers were directed outside the structure. The airport was closed due to flooding and blackouts. The fire department had requested support from the Civil Protection to send teams equipped with electric pumps to empty the basements in the airport arrivals area.
