A Nigerian girl saves motorcyclist caught in storm, mayor of Catania thanks her

Angela is 28 years old, has a 30-month-old child, and a job in which she gives her all. She was the one who saved the motorcyclist hit by the rainwater that turned Via Etnea into a river. She didn’t hesitate to intervene. She rescued the man and then returned to her job at Pellegrino Cafè on Via Etnea. “I saw him and I understood that I had to help him – Angela recalls – I gathered some courage. I don’t know how he is now. I didn’t do anything. Instead, darn, I lost my phone in all that water.”

The mayor of Catania, Enrico Trantino, called her to thank her for that intervention captured by social media and become viral. “Angela, the Nigerian girl who today challenged the water flow to save a man on Via Etnea, not only deserves our gratitude but tangible signs of gratitude. I heard from her and we will see each other in the coming days. From Angela, we have received a great lesson in solidarity – adds Trantino -. However, having become aware of the numerous videos that were taken to film the scene, I am sure that if it were to happen again, those involved in filming would make an effort to lend a hand. Because we Catanesi are generous, but sometimes we need someone, with their actions, to remind us.”
