35-year-old man arrested for raping a tourist on a beach in Termini Imerese

The Carabinieri of Termini Imerese Station, supported by colleagues from the Operational Radio Mobile Unit, carried out a precautionary custody order in prison, issued by the Judge of the Termini Imerese Court at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, against a 35-year-old man from the area, with a criminal record, accused of aggravated sexual violence and aggravated robbery.

The investigative activity allowed to outline a serious circumstantial evidence framework, substantially reflected in the precautionary measure against the suspect. The investigations have indeed shed light on what happened to a foreign tourist, on vacation in the capital of Palermo, who reported being attacked by an unknown man in broad daylight, while she was on the beach in the port area of Termini Imerese.

Based on the victim’s account, the man would first have stolen her cellphone, preventing her from seeking help, and then raped her. The acquisition of images extracted from the surveillance cameras on the scene, compared with the woman’s and other witnesses’ testimonies, allowed the military to reconstruct the events by drawing an identikit of the alleged attacker who was quickly identified and arrested. The thirty-five-year-old is now imprisoned in the Termini Imerese prison.
