Austrian tourist falls during hike in Salina, transferred to Palermo.

An Austrian tourist, aged 74, was rescued in the Aeolian Islands after getting injured during a hike on Mount Salina. The woman, part of a group, was walking on a challenging path in Valle Spina when she fell and couldn’t continue. The emergency services were called, including personnel from the 118 emergency medical service, the head of surveillance at the Le Montagne delle Felci e dei Porri nature reserve Elio Benenati, and volunteers from the Leni Civil Protection. It was confirmed that she had a compound fracture of the clavicle. Due to darkness, the helicopter rescue couldn’t be carried out, so a night-time aircraft from the air force had to be requested. The tourist was transferred to Palermo and hospitalized. In recent days, three other tourists were injured on Vulcano Island.
