Gal Hassin 2024 awards go to Pievani and Polidoro
The Gal Hassin 2024 event will take place on November 5th at the museum hall of the Isnello Foundation. This annual event features astrophysics and scientific communication, engaging the public with various activities such as courses, conferences, roundtables, interviews, and entertainment. The highlight of the event is the presentation of the Gal Hassin Award, with this year’s recipients being Professor Telmo Pievani from the University of Padua and Professor Massimo Polidoro from the Polytechnic University of Milan and the University of Padua.
The event will also include Maura Tombelli, director of the Montelupo Fiorentino Astronomical Observatory and president of the Montelupo Astronomy Group, along with other guests such as Marco Morelli from the Parsec Foundation, Mario Di Martino from the Inaf Observatory in Turin, and Giuseppina Micela from the Inaf Astronomical Observatory in Palermo.
In February 2024, an asteroid was dedicated to Telmo Pievani and Massimo Polidoro, named (120098) Telmopievani and (193818) Polidoro respectively. Telmopievani has a diameter of 3.477 kilometers and an orbital period of 5.226 years, while Polidoro has an orbital period of 3.32 years. These asteroids were discovered by Fabrizio Bernardi, Maura Tombelli, Luciano Tesi, and Giuseppe Forti at various observatories.
