Lucia Borsellino sheds light on her father’s loneliness and betrayal.

The processes of recent years have revealed the most serious obstruction of justice in Italian history. In this moment, I believe it is even more necessary not to neglect any area of investigation, especially to shed light on my father’s solitude within what he called the den of vipers, the Palermo Prosecutor’s Office. He also confided that a friend had betrayed him. Who is this friend? The right to truth is timeless.» Lucia Borsellino reiterates this, along with her siblings, Fiammetta and Manfredi, who have never stopped demanding truth and justice for the massacre that killed their father, Paolo, and the five police officers on July 19, 1992.

Lucia Borsellino adds: «This country often forgets, but we must continue to remember: they were called Agostino Catalano, Walter Eddie Cosina, Emanuela Loi, Claudio Traina, and Vincenzo Fabio Li Muli.»

The investigations of the Prosecutor’s Office of Caltanissetta are trying to shed light on what happened in those years. Also under investigation are two magistrates who have become symbols of the fight against the mafia in the last thirty years, Gioacchino Natoli and Giuseppe Pignatone.

“We still await, over thirty years after the massacre, to know the reasons that led our father, a few weeks before his death, to publicly express his unequivocal words of accusation for the betrayals committed against his friend and colleague Giovanni Falcone and his team up to that moment. It is well known the profound state of prostration that accompanied him from May 23, 1992 until his death, culminating a few days before July 19 in the outburst collected by his colleagues Massimo Russo and Alessandra Camassa: in his office, our father used expressions like “den of vipers” and “a friend has betrayed me,” says Lucia Borsellino. And she emphasizes: “The Prosecutor’s Office of Caltanissetta is exerting all its efforts in this direction, and to them go our unconditional respect and trust.”
